Recognise the value of hot condensate

Returning suitable condensate recovers sensible heat and treated water. Not every return stream is automatically suitable for boiler feed. Assess possible process contamination, temperature and water quality. Evaluate recovery potential using actual flow, return temperature and existing losses.

The return line may carry two phases

When hot condensate enters a lower-pressure region, some may flash into steam. Return-line sizing therefore cannot rely on liquid flow alone. Friction, elevation, other connected users and receiver pressure affect backpressure at the trap. Assess the combined liquid and vapour conditions.

Drainage can stall

At low load, steam pressure in a temperature-controlled exchanger can fall below what is needed to overcome return backpressure. Condensate then accumulates: this is stall. A larger trap alone does not solve the lack of differential pressure. Select a condensate pump or pump-trap arrangement using pressures, load range and installation head.

Let’s select the right product.

Consider nominal size, pressure class, fluid, temperature, connection and actuation together. Refer to the technical catalogue for suitable materials and operating limits.
