Look beyond an individual valve
Severe knocking may involve accumulated condensate being accelerated or rapid steam condensation. Vibration and irregular impacts require assessment of the whole line. Installing a higher-PN valve does not explain why condensate accumulates. Investigate pipe layout, drainage and operating conditions together.
Review drainage and strainer installation
Low points, insufficient drainage or unsuitable orientation can allow condensate to collect. Install strainers according to their instructions without creating a condensate pocket in steam service. Check trap capacity, fouling, backpressure and possible reverse flow together. Plan cleaning through safe isolation procedures for pressurised equipment.
Use start-up and maintenance records
Record whether impacts occur during warm-up, load changes or steady operation. Compare pressure, temperature, valve position and drainage to distinguish causes. With severe impacts or visible pipe movement, follow the plant’s safe shutdown procedure and obtain a competent inspection before returning the line to service.
Let’s select the right product.
Consider nominal size, pressure class, fluid, temperature, connection and actuation together. Refer to the technical catalogue for suitable materials and operating limits.
