Define the required downstream pressure
A pressure-reducing valve regulates a higher supply pressure to suit the process. Provide the minimum and maximum inlet pressure, target outlet pressure and steam-flow range. State whether pressures are gauge or absolute. A single normal duty point may not describe a widely varying load adequately.
Treat the valve as part of a station
Plan suitable straining, condensate drainage, pressure measurement and maintenance isolation together. Wet or contaminated steam can impair regulation and service life. Determine separator requirements, sensing-line position and straight-pipe distances from the selected regulator’s installation documentation.
Separate pressure control from protection
A pressure-reducing valve does not replace a safety valve. Assess separate overpressure protection where downstream equipment cannot withstand the supply pressure. Protection capacity and set pressure require a competent engineering assessment. Include downstream allowable pressure and connected equipment in the enquiry.

Consider nominal size, pressure class, fluid, temperature, connection and actuation together. Refer to the technical catalogue for suitable materials and operating limits.
